Kucinich talks to national gathering of political activists.
Manchester, N.H., June 10 -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich told an excited crowd at the national convention DemocracyFest “taking the stand you have for election integrity, accountability of elected officials, global warming and warring, health care and protecting the NH public water supply connects us all. And let’s remember we’re all connected through peace!”
Speaking to the crowd via telephone Kucinich commended NH Representatives Betty Hall and Bob Perry for requesting the NH legislature issue a resolution calling for the removal of certain elected officials in Washington if found to be in violation of the law. “I would also like to thank Betty Hall for her commitment to peace. Her work over the years not only makes peace possible between people in the Mid-East but between nations all over the world!”
Gold Star parents Melinda Arredondo who lives in Roslindale, Massachusetts with her husband Carols asked Kucinich what they could do to stop the war in Iraq and honor the memory of their son Alexander. “It is imperative you address the leadership in Congress. They could put an end to it now.” Kucinich continued, “There’s enough money in the pipeline to bring the troops home and protect the people of Iraq.”
The Ohio Congressman, running for the Democratic nomination for president, advised the Arredondo’s “you can be a powerful spokesperson to reach the Congressional leaders, tell them not to introduce any bill that’s going to fund the war. We must not let Iraq become a state of mind.” Kucinich told the crowd, “We must end war as a statement of our policy.”
Kucinich also announced he will advise Rep. Holt that the he will not be supporting HR 811, a voter reform bill rapidly losing support. “The key to engaging voters” Kucinich stated emphatically “is complete credibility of the electoral process. I plan to continue my oversight hearings on election integrity.” When asked about reintroducing HR 6200, his bill calling for hand counted paper ballots in the presidential race for last session Kucinich said it would be "very soon."
“Think about it” he spoke to grassroots leaders from as far away as California, Texas and Louisiana, “this war, health care for all, rebuilding our cities, education and all the other things we care about are tied to maintaining the integrity of our leadership and our elections!” Kucinich who has repeatedly expressed concern that America's credibility in the world is being severely undermined said “I’m asking you to continue to work with me for a renewed America. It’s important to us all.”
Jean Sara Rohe, a recent college graduate and political activist from Brooklyn, NY told several sponsors of the event in Manchester, NH, “thank you, I came looking for a candidate I could be passionate about. I found him.”
