In conclusion, Agnes Callard has undertaken, successfully, in my estimate, a retrieval of the philosopher and of Socratic ethics. Even so, I must say that I find it disconcerting to find not one mention in her 400-page book of President Donald Trump - who was elected to his second term as president of the United States in the election on November 5, 2024. As I see our contemporary American political situation today, this is not the most opportune time for Agnes Collard to advance her deep understanding of Socratic ethics.

As I mentioned above, if Agnes Collard has published anything about the antisemitism in the news recently, I have not found it.

Yes, of course, I wish Agnes Collard well in her efforts to promote her new 2025 book Open Socrates: The Case for a Philosophical Life. However, it strikes me that she is not going to convince very many of her fellow Americans today in President Trump's second term of the case for a philosophical life - which may be extremely unfortunate.
