“The American Revolution was a moment in time: the American Evolution is ongoing … we can rebuild America, we can put America back to work, we have the capacity to solve our own problems and create prosperity for all, this is the ‘Old Tyme Democratic religion!”
Noting that his district in Ohio was a community that was “Number one in the country in foreclosures, and struggling to survive,” he thanked the Californians for their contributions, saying, “My work in the U.S. Congress is made possible because of people like yourselves.”
Dennis introduced former Los Angeles County District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi, known for his prosecution of Charles Manson in 1970. Bugliosi was given a standing ovation.
Just the day before, Bugliosi had stood before the Judicial Committee, saying that he understood that under the House rules he could not use the word “impeachment” and that "I am forbidden from accusing [Bush] of a crime, or even any dishonorable conduct."
But he had held up a copy of his new book, “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder”, saying that “in this book I present evidence that beyond all reasonable doubt the Bush Administration officials took this nation to war in Iraq on a lie, under false pretenses, and therefore, under the law, they are guilty of murder for the deaths of over 4,000 young American solders,” making a strong and provocative case for “the-process-otherwise-known-as-impeachment.”
During the Q & A, some called Kucinich, “my hero,” one woman tearfully thanked him for his articles of impeachment and for the Judicial hearing the previous day, and to unanimous applause, actor Esai Morales addressed Kucinich as “Mr. – I hope, someday – President.”
I chatted with Bree Walker, who said, “I think it is important for Dennis to continue to be a thorn in the side of the Bush Administration, to stay sharp and supported …” And just then, as if on cue, a woman walked by and handed Bree a beautiful yellow rose!
Dr. Anthony Saidy, international chess master and author said, "Dennis Kucinich projects a vision of taking back our democracy from its greedy usurpers and restoring our Constitution. In a world that gets more threatening by the day, his message is a ray of hope. It depends on people asserting their power, and soon."
LA City Councilman Bill Rosendahl said that “Dennis brought a fire that is light as well as heat,” and thanked him for his passion.
Easi Morales had wonderful things to say about Dennis, but he was so happy to hear that I was writing about the event, that he kissed me, and my knees went weak and I promptly forgot everything else he said. But it was great stuff, I swear.
