Bhagwad Gita
At the same time many Hindu nationalist leaders are proposing to make the Bhagvad-Gita India's 'national book', in much the same way as the Bible and the Quran are for Christian and Islamic countries.
Not surprisingly, in December 2014, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said that the Hindu scripture Bhagavad-Gita should be declared a "national scripture". Another BJP state leader, Manohar Lal Khattar, went one step further. He said the Bhagavad-Gita was above the nation's constitution.
Tellingly, Hindu Freedom Movement, an Hindu extremist group, has an ambitious agenda to make India Hindu state. In June 2017, approximately 150 Hindu outfits held a four-day convention in Goa to chalk out a program for establishing a 'Hindu Rashtra' in India by 2023.
