With the mysterious usage of Sarin gas on civilians at Ghouta, the media and the establishment hawks had their justification for the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad but Obama balked. Secretary of State John Kerry then cracked open the door for Putin to save the day by negotiating the surrender of Syrian chemical weapons stocks and the war was aborted.
That one really didn't sit very well with many.
But what really enraged apple pie authoritarians was Putin's audacious editorial that ran in the New York Times on September 11, 2013 in which the Russian Federation president blasted the concept of American exceptionalism:
And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States' policy is "what makes America different. It's what makes us exceptional." It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord's blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
The NYT piece represented the crossing of the Rubicon for the neocons and their cruise missile liberal cohorts. It was a mere six months later that Nuland's orchestrated coup d'eat in Kiev - and it's heavy reliance on openly neo-Nazi elements - firmly set America on the current collision course with Russia. The mobs filled with agitators succeeded in the overthrow of democratically elected Viktor Yanukovych and the installation of a regime to be headed up by U.S. puppet Arseniy Yatsenyuk. The same man from Nuland's intercepted phone call scheming the regime change as "Yats is the guy". Murderous oligarch Petro Poroshenko aka the Chocolate King has since become the top dog in Kiev but the most vile elements are still well-represented there.
The textbook color revolution all went down like a charm while Putin was preoccupied with the Sochi Winter Olympics, a bit of payback for his meddling in the Syria project. However, in what was a huge blow to the regime changers, Russia moved to quickly annex Crimea and protect it's Black Sea naval base at Sevastopol. This was a particularly galling development to Nuland who had openly boasted to corporate vultures of the $5 billion that the U.S. had plunked down in order to "develop" Ukraine.
It was immediately after the Kiev coup that the propaganda really began to increase in intensity and neocon ideology began to bleed over into the new media favored by the millennial generation. Internet news powerhouses like Vice, Buzzfeed and the Daily Beast promulgated the hatred of Russia to a younger audience on a daily basis like a drug dealer reaching out to new customers.
Additionally, a cottage industry was spawned in conjuring up wild tales of Russian infiltration of American websites through a "troll army" that in September 2016 now appears to be a convenient excuse to call for the crushing of legitimate political dissent.
Filmmaker Robbie Martin does a wonderful job of outing what he refers to as the new "hipster" neocons in his epic three-part documentary "A Very Heavy Agenda" which is described as:
Post-9/11, the War on Terror had outlived its usefulness. The minds behind the think tanks that drive America's interventionist foreign policy decided that the U.S. needed a new enemy, so they chose an old one -- Russia.
Martin relies on actual television footage of the neocons and their allies to make the damning case against them in their own words. The documentary is a critical component in understanding how saturated that the new media has become by neocon snake oil in a more trendy bottle.
The middle installment of the trilogy is entitled "How We Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the New Neocons" picks up at the time that the Ukrainian government was toppled and explores how the younger shills for the war machine continue to preach the gospel of Kagan, Kristol, Wolfowitz and Perle. They are all now working desperately to ensure the election of Mrs. Clinton and the resumption of the drive for planetary conquest.
