Rove's
expectations of a election fraud turned GOP miracle failed to materialize
because of the efforts of thousands.
Journalists reported on the issues and connections. Academics researched the architecture of the
equipment. Lawyers litigated. Most importantly thousands of activists all
over the country watched the polling places, monitored the count, tweeted and
stood ready to hit the streets.
The gun was
loaded, but the trigger was never pulled.
Karl Rove did not get the memo because the actual would-be executioners
of our right to vote did not wish to be caught in contact with him.
The real
heroes, if there are any, are not anonymous or "The Protectors". The election was not saved by Superman. It was saved by Jimmy Olsen. It was saved by
the thousands of work a day people who all did their part.
These false
claims make for good copy. They sell
stories. The real story is not
finished. There are would-be
perpetrators to catch. The mechanisms of
fraud are still in place, waiting dormant for the next cycle when our guard
will be down.
There is an
Election Integrity movement in this country growing slowly since 2000. It is a movement for real transparency and
democracy. It is made up of ordinary
heroes, for democracy must be saved by the many.
If voting comes down to a war between hackers, where does that leave the
rest of us? It took a comic book to discuss
the dangers of a Superman within an "egalitarian" society.
If we want
democracy, WE have to take it. It can
not be won for us, either by skill or deception.
