Dr. Woodrow Monte [former professor of Food Science at Arizona State University, and author of While Science Sleeps and the new DVD, Solving the Mystery of Multiple Sclerosis: Is your Diet Secretly Poisoning You?] took the aspartame and seizures and blindness issue all the way to the Supreme Court but they wouldn't hear it. Now that's power!
A colleague who was at an FDA meeting informed us that the FDA was ready to take it off the market at that time, because the FDA was getting all the seizure complaints, added them to their report, had the petition to ban aspartame because it causes seizures and blindness, and even knew industry's own study showed aspartame triggers seizures, yet continues to tell the public its safe and doesn't trigger seizures.
The FDA has a list of pivotal studies, which are the manufacturers' best they use to get a product approved. Aspartame studies were so bad G. D. Searle used the 52 week oral toxicity study as pivotal in the approval. Is this their hallmark of safety? Five monkeys had grand mal seizures and one died! I was informed by someone who worked for Searle at the time Rumsfeld left the Pentagon for the first time, then took over as CEO: first thing he did was remove all aspartame studies. You can't cover something up with all the evidence continuing to sit around!
Everything is a matter of record, unless it has been intentionally expunged by industry, and the foremost example of this is Ronald Reagan's Executive Order preventing the FDA from signing the revoked petition for approval into law. However, this was even mentioned in FDA Commissioner Jeri Goyan's wife's letter to me, and is well known in other quarters.
The FDA will point to other entities like EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority's parroting that "aspartame is safe."
In reality the head of EFSA committee charged with examining aspartame, Dr. Herman Koeter, resigned a few years ago, saying "they had been pressured by industry to hijack science." This had to do with the renown Ramazzini studies that showed aspartame to be a multipotential carcinogen.
Aspartame being a carcinogen was well known since the beginning as on 8/1/85 FDA scientist, Dr. Adrian Gross, told the Senate that aspartame was on the market illegally because it violated the Delaney Amendment (which forbids putting anything in food you know will cause cancer). He said aspartame beyond a shadow of a doubt caused brain tumors and brain cancer. Speaking against his own FDA, he even said they should not have been able to set an allowable daily intake.
Dr. Gross' last words speaking to the Senate will never be forgotten:
"And if the FDA violates its own laws, who is left to protect the people?"

How does industry today get away with saying aspartame doesn't cause seizures? They are experts at feloniously abusing and covering up science:
This is how they do it: click here
Then with full knowledge, they put aspartame in anti-seizure medication: .wnho.net/dilantin_aspartame_and_seizures.htm Also, aspartame interacts with anti-seizure medication.
Read about Robin Goodwin, Mission Possible Falkland Islands, whose daughter had aspartame seizures every day for 18 years, which stopped when he found out about aspartame being a seizure triggering drug and had her abstain. What an activist! He didn't want that to happen to anyone else and he knew about the FDA only protecting industry as does England's Food Standards. So he wrote everyone in the Falkland Islands. Then aspartame just rotted on the shelves.
