This periodic beating up of a defenseless people is not about self-defense. Were this true it would imply that Israel is being attacked by an invading army and that it is responding militarily as a matter of principle. Yes, the rockets are an annoyance and a latent threat to Israeli lives but the response is way out of proportion. Israel has a military hammer and every Palestinian problem is a nail.
The silence of the international community makes it complicit in Israel's ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. The United States and the European Union was quick to support their white brothers in Ukraine and legitimize a brutal coup d'etat. They have embraced a billionaire president and underwrote the modern principle of mob rule. They have also condemned Russia's activities in Eastern Ukraine.
Yet, Israel is above the law. The tepid, spineless response from President Obama who is tough on Russia and other states not in the United State's fan club is his way of getting back in Nethanyu's good books after the frosty relations over him going to Egypt instead of visiting Israel to kneel and "kiss the ring."
There will be the usual commission of inquiries and the like, vapid, impotent self-righteous noises from the toothless United Nations, and some here and there criticism, and crocodile tears over the Palestinian loss of life. Then, as usual, Israel will ignore everything, spit in the face of the international community's belated condemnations because Nethanyu and company know that US Big Brother has got its back.
And so until the next time when Israel will again evoke its "right to self defense" when Palestinian youths start throwing rocks at soldiers carrying rifles.....Sheeeesh.
