socialist bloc nations of Eastern Europe, quite a few key solo
positions were performed beautifully by musicians who only studied in Vietnam. When I first arrived, the musicians were earning the equivalent of 50 cents a service, and all but a few
professors were working other jobs, yet everyone's dedication to
music allowed for their instruments to sing eloquently. Again, I wish you might have heard the orchestra. My favorite performance was of the Brahms Double Concerto with both soloists Vietnamese, professors who studied in Moscow, but there were so many great performances I wish you could have heard.
