enunciates the fact that "The surge will be over in April 2008, when the U.S. Army and Marines run out of deployable troops, and therefore at least a quarter of the 20 brigades now in Iraq will inevitably be withdrawn and not replaced.
This is by now common knowledge. At the same time, nearly all politicians, including most Democrats, have come out against a total withdrawal and have recognized that we will have some military presence in Iraq for a long time to come."
Who gets to say to some weeping Iraqi mother that their children were the last victims we coldly label as "collateral damage"? Who will exhibit compassion for the US family of a soldier who died last in this atrocious war? It won't be W. He told Draper the "Dead Certain" author that he was an "October November" man, which is a cynical ploy to land this horrible Iraq war on the lap of the next president.
Whatever is the conclusion of "Operation Iraqi Freedom" won't be what W has been pushing. Bro 43 violated the Powell Doctrine of having a defined strategy, overwhelming military superiority and defined end state-therefore whatever W arrives at can't be matched with any flowcharts of intended consequences.
"Operation Iraqi Freedom" will end up with what the Iraqis want which is to return to a partitioned country similar to that which existed prior to the war with southern and northern "no fly zones"--and that result will end up shafting the US! They hate us! Remember that they are debating an amnesty for those who have been involved in the mayhem in Iraq. If the person is considered to be a freedom fighter-a person who killed US and Iraqi forces to protect and further their interests, then he can receive amnesty. In other words, the Iraqis sanction the killing of our troops. Is there any clearer indication of their hatred for us than that!
What the Iraqis want is to shaft the US! Since that matches big bro 43's plans then "Operation Iraqi Freedom" will stay the course!
