The key to our future will depend on the choices we make and whether we succumb to political movements whose unspoken motto is "divide and conquer." Such an occurrence would likely engender great confusion and even the possibility of mass psychosis -- a tower of Babel without a clarifying dialogue.
Amidst this chaos, sociopathic political leaders, groups, and nations are likely to utilize "double-think" and crazy-making double-talk more than ever before.

The reality is that we may fail to successfully negotiate the rapids leading to higher levels of consciousness. If we remain passive (or merely "victimized") in the face of this intense stress - rather than seeking to understand and work through it - Earth may become a "failed planet."
We may experience disintegration amidst confusion and strife.
This could occur particularly if we preoccupy ourselves with the politics of the day, instead of working to deeply comprehend our times, and then use this stress to endure, grow and take action to overcome destructive trends.
The Democlean Era
We are once again living in the shadow of biological and nuclear warfare leading to the very possible extinction of much life on Earth.
As in the Greek myth, we are sitting under the sword of Damocles, which is suspended by a thread. Consciously or unconsciously, we are experiencing our lives at the edge of the chasm of death. Much of the current external chaos in our world may be a consequence of this subliminal awareness. Our lives take place in a time of extreme danger and need.
Our ecological IOUs are predicted to become due, as we reach a condition of "overshoot." Without a massive, fundamental realignment of our social priorities, we will be overtaken on many fronts at once.
Events may increasingly get out of hand, engendering positive feedback loops: self-amplifying chaos in the ecological, political, social, and economic realms. This state will exemplify what Gregory Bateson referred to as "schizmogenesis" - escalating cycles of passivity, distortion, knee-jerk vicious cycle overreactions, misunderstandings and breakdowns in communication.
There will be less and less to hold on to regarding how we will live, what society can provide and what can be possessed. People will become increasingly alarmed as conditions relentlessly deteriorate --- either, pitting humans against each other --- or forcing us to let go of our long-held assumptions at deeper and deeper levels, and reconciling our differences.
Panic will grow as what we had assumed to be normal and necessary structures are torn away, while common beliefs are radically challenged. Millions, possibly billions will die or find their lives pushed to desperate limits.
