Our government only recognizes the one thing no victim of continued violence possesses, power. I doubt that there is not one of us who has not attempted to contact our government in one form or another, one agency or another, in an futile cry for help. We have contacted the media, to have our stories ignored. The American Bar and other legal associations, national, state and local, the mountain of charitable organizations supported by the rich and powerful (to be honest, there are a few good ones, but very few, and they are grossly understaffed and underfunded), the physicians associations, and even corporations give lip service to helping, but do nothing in reality. They spend dollars talking about violence, but when it comes to the trenches, they will turn their backs on a victim in a New York minute. They exist only as a front, only for show. Their dollars are spent only on window dressing, and I would go so far as to say, in some cases, on identification of those who are in need of elimination.

And, so the system of courts has taken upon themselves to dispose of the weakened. In all too many cases, they exist for the sole purpose of maintaining power where it already lies. On keeping the oppressed, oppressed. On re-victimizing the victim. We have no hope of the government stepping in. We can rant and rave about injustice all we want. They do not WANT to hear. They like things the way they are, because the courts and the lawyers and the felons are their power base. We cost them money, the courts, lawyers and felons provide it. We and our children could die at ten times the rate we do, and our government would dance on our graves, for without victims, they would have no one to ensure their power.

And, so, I leave you with this mathematical equation to ponder. One which is fact, not theory. It has taken ours and governments that proceeded it, several lifetimes to develop. Some people will never understand it, though it is simple. Some will exploit it for its simplicity. Our government officials, through the courts, has built in an expansion mechanism to allow for variations to the main premises, including the New York Times article and the memory that has inspired this dissertation.

P=C+Cr+X-V

Power=courts plus criminals plus the unknown expansion mechanism minus victim.Simple mathematics. This is whywomen victims of violence and their children will never win in a US Court.
