JB: Anything you'd like to add before we wrap this up, Judy?
JW: I can't visit Gary this weekend. Never mind that they stole six months from us and illegally moved him and illegally continue to imprison him in a higher security prison further from home. In Forrest City, Gary is only allowed five visits a month. This month has five weekends. We want to have more time together on the third year anniversary weekend, so we lose this weekend. It's all cruel and unusual.
Everything the BOP does that limits family contact in any way is acting against public interest, as family ties are the single strongest factor in predicting whether a prisoner will return to prison after his release, yet they do everything possible to destroy those ties. A prison employee in Millington smugly told a prisoner who was being released, "We'll leave the light on for you."
JB: That's unnerving. Thanks so much for talking with me again, Judy. It's not exactly fun but it's always an education!
