"Jason,
Mr. Foreman, Mr. Withers can see you now. Please go right in."
"Hello
Jason. And you must be Mr. Foreman, Jason's father. I'm Zachary Withers, the
Superintendent in charge of Home Delivery Services."
"Hello,
Mr. Withers."
"Kindly
take seats while I pull out Jason's dossier."
"What's
a dossier, dad?"
"It's
bureaucratic lingo, a formal term for your file."
"Sounds
like a spy movie."
"Mr.
Foreman, we'd be happy to have Jason work for us this summer."
"Thanks,
Mr. Withers. Isn't that great, dad?"
"Yes,
it is. Your first job. Congratulations."
"All
we need to do to finalize the entry process is to complete the mandatory
security background check on Jason and the rest of his family, which would be
you and his mother."
"A
security check? What exactly does that entail?"
"I
don't do them myself so I can't be more specific. The completed questionnaires
are sent to a contracted third party that specializes in that sort of thing.
They have a reputation for being very thorough. You can't be too careful these
days, you know."
"Careful,
uh huh. Mr. Withers, perhaps you can explain to me why it's necessary to do a
background check on all of us when only Jason will be working for you."
"I'm
merely following regulations, Mr. Foreman. The position Jason is applying for
requires a level one security clearance for his entire family."
"A
level one security clearance."
