Abstract Expressions , Sona Mirzaei's latest exhibition, features works from three of her latest collections. This solo exhibition, opens at Seyhoun Gallery in West Hollywood on December 10th and is a gathering of work, many new, but a few revisited from past shows. From first sight, a robustly exuberant expressionistic statement is revealed. From the seeming chaos of color and symbol emerges a richly textured visual story that links each of the works to the other as Sona seeks communion with her audience.

Sona Mirzaei paints with a freewheeling sense of innocence staying true to her free spirit, never stopping to second guess herself. There is a broad sense of diversity and openness to Sona's work. She places color at the very heart of what she is trying to convey as an artist. The layering of oils, acrylics, and mixed media forms, create dimensions that enhance and draw out the emotional content that Sona manifests on her canvases in ways that are visually striking and so aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

One can be overwhelmed with the sense of royalty expressed through the grand parade of colors that define her In Search of Splendor collection. But then we are seduced by the light sweep of the brush strokes that evoke far gentler emotions in the pieces making up her Tales of Copenhagen collection.

Dominant structure coexists with the delicate touches that Sona brings to her canvas all surrounded by a never ending whirlwind of creative energy. With stylish repetition of stroke, symbol, color and media, Sona's collections are notable for their internal thematic consistency which creates a sense of unity.

Sona is unabashedly bold in her work. She is definitely an artist to watch, determined and free of artificial constraint with an enduring ambition to be true to her creative mission. Hers will no doubt be a successful career with more collections that will delight and enrich her audience in years to come.

Abstract Expressions opens Saturday, December 10th, at Seyhoun Gallery (9007 Melrose Ave. between Doheny and Robertson) in West Hollywood. The opening reception will be held from 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm. The exhibition runs through December 10th -- 20th, 2011. http://www.seyhoungallery.net/ .
