I've always figured that if I didn't want my kids to grow up racist, then one thing I needed to do was to provide dolls that came in a variety of shapes and colors, and storybooks that were inclusive. Years ago there wasn't as much to choose from, but Ezra Jack Keats' "The Snowy Day" and Leo and Diane Dillon's books were always in our libraries.
Today there are lots more, two of my favorites are "Sulwe" and "Grace for President."
Privilege comes with responsibility. This helpful list was compiled by Sarah Sophie Flicker, Alyssa Klein in May, 2020.
