When anyone - a political candidate, or anyone else - inspires the Cultural Creatives to passionate response, it's worth a second look. Cultural Creatives are much less likely to get involved in politics-as-usual, they would rather spend their time being, well, culturally creative. But they are deeply inspired by vision and ethics, and once ignited, you can't stop them or their art. (Cases in point: the French Revolution and the first American Revolution.)
And Bernie's Revolution has galvanized the artists.
"If you think that this is just about a presidential election, you haven't been paying attention, because this is a movement." -(from " Bernie Sanders Supporters Take Over Los Angeles Coffee Shop" video)
When I worked on both of Dennis Kucinich's Presidential Campaigns in CA, I worked with and/or interviewed many progressive celebrity activists, including actors
Frances Fisher (Titanic, in the video below)
Mimi Kennedy,
Ed Asner, and others.
(For those campaign efforts, I even netted a mighty kiss - actually two! - from heartthrob actor
Esai Morales...sigh...but that's a story for another day!)
It's refreshing, then and now, to see monied celebrities support ethical candidates who are working for The People, not for the One Percent. Howard Gold, the owner of the iconic coffee shop at Wilshire and Fairfax in LA, which was featured in The Big Lebowski and other movies, has offered the landmark space for a Sanders Headquarters. A sign posted noted that it was "Open 27 hours," a clear reference to the well known figure of the average donation to the Sanders campaign.
"When the artists come out in favor of a candidate, you know it's a true political revolution as well as a social revolution." - Bernie Sanders Supporters Take Over Los Angeles Coffee Shop video
The money of the one percent can only do so much, it is no match when the collective soul of the people is on fire.
Jeff Dowd, activist and inspiration for
Jeff Bridges' "The Dude" character, said, "This is a great example of how the grassroots make elections work. The Dude abides."
This is a passionate People's R/Evolution, and there is plenty of fuel in CA.
