My guest today is Matthew Charles Cardinale, the founder and CEO of Atlanta Progressive News, an online, independent news service, founded in 2005.
Joan Brunwasser: Welcome to OpEdNews, Matthew. Many of our readers are not familiar with Atlanta Progressive News. What can you tell us about it?
Matthew Cardinale: Thanks for asking, Joan. I founded Atlanta Progressive News in 2005 as a progressive, alternative news service, back in the early days of Internet news.I actually had been a contributor to websites like OpEdNews back in the 2003-2005 era and had decided to focus my efforts on a single city.
JB: How's that going?
MC: We've been online at www.atlantaprogressivenews.com for now over ten years, with over 2,500 original articles covering City and County Government, public policy, the Legislature, elections, activism, and the like.
It is through running APN that I became increasingly familiar with issues of public policy, especially affordable housing.
JB: Now that you're more familiar with an issue such as affordable housing, where has that led you?
MC: Well, after working on affordable housing issues for many years, I came up with a Model Ordinance for Affordable Housing Impact Statements - which is a way for cities and counties to keep track of the impact of any decision they make, on the stock of affordable housing in that area.
