SHARE Thursday, May 23, 2019 Will Women Be Regarded as Human Beings Or Incubators?
A vicious wave of extreme anti-abortion legislation is being hammered into law across the US. This assault on abortion is part of a worldwide escalation of misogyny bound up with the resurgence of fascism and religious fanaticism in the face of a rapidly changing world. People need to fiercely protest, struggle against, and truly fight to defeat these monstrous measures that represent a misogynistic assault on the people!

In a recent New York Times column, Jennifer Weiner plumbed the depths of her fury at the lifetime of patriarchal insult and injury faced by her and all women. But rather than aim her fury at ending sexual assault, violence against women, and the system that gives rise to it, she plunges into a gruesome, small-minded vision of revenge. Fury alone is not enough--Where SHOULD our fury drive us?

Susan Faludi, a longtime feminist author who has made important contributions to understanding and fighting the oppression of women, wrote a NY Times column in which she imagines a world where nominally pro-choice Republican senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski could "halt the whole charade, and alter the course of history, with a press release" and by them switching parties. To this I can only respond: WAKE UP!

Near the end of my speech at a protest last week, some in the crowd tried to drown me out with cries to "focus on the children" and "vote them out." Apparently they thought my bringing up the need for an actual revolution and even of the need for millions of people from diverse political perspectives to come together to drive out the Trump/Pence fascist regime was not germane to the issue of the children.

In his podcast, Jeremy Scahill gives damning exposure of the horrific leap the Trump/Pence regime is making in relation to truly sick and vicious treatment of immigrants--now literally tearing infants and children from the arms of their parents. Refreshingly, Scahill gets at something essential: BOTH the major parties of this country are guilty of towering crimes. But then abruptly, Scahill's "reasoning" drops off a cliff.
SHARE Sunday, June 10, 2018 Five Things You Need to Know in Light of the Upcoming Supreme Court Abortion Case
A decision is expected soon from the US Supreme Court on a challenge to a 2015 California law requiring anti-abortion fake clinics (so-called "Crisis Pregnancy Centers") to disclose that they are not medically certified. The law also requires all licensed clinics that provide ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, and birth control advice to post information about affordable abortion and contraception services offered by the state.

Matthews makes a well-argued--but dangerously wrong--case against what he sees as the unfounded and harmful hopes many harbor to see Trump removed from office. He cautions that the best we can hope for and must actively work towards is to muddle through this disastrous presidency. Aiming for more, he says, will stand in the way of stymieing the worst of Trump's agenda. This argument is not only delusional, it is deadly.

Recently, "Antifa" has come under a sustained and many-sided political attack, including from liberal and some "progressive" voices, attacks that echo Trump and other forces. It matters that Antifa--along with other groups and individuals, including revolutionary communists--stood their ground and fought back in Charlottesville. Who among the so-called "leftists" and liberals would have preferred the outcome had they not?

How long must women live with the fear of violence at the hands of men who are trained by society to hate them, to feel entitled to their bodies, to view women not as human but as things who exist to sexually and emotionally service them or bear their children?
Until we make REVOLUTION -- NOTHING LESS!
(6 comments) SHARE Tuesday, July 17, 2012 Are Rape Jokes Ever Funny?
The reason why jokes which belittle or celebrate rape "work" (to those who laugh) is because women are routinely violated, killed, beaten, demeaned, and degraded and this is in contradiction to the thin veil of "equality for women" which has supposedly been won. There IS a contradiction here. But, whether you find it funny to laugh about rape depends on your view of how this contradiction should be resolved.

The dis-invitation was done out of opposition to Sunsara's communist viewpoints and through dishonest and slanderous methods.

Sanitizing Obama's positions is dangerously similar to how the Pentagon refers to civilian deaths as "collateral damage"; it numbs people to reality and makes it easier for them to acquiesce. Particularly painful is that many of the letter signers have a commendable history of insisting people confront the crimes of the government, but the logic of trying to make Obama something he is not had led them away from this principle

The choice we face is not really between Obama and McCain. Our choice is between accepting the ruling class spectrum of Obama to McCain as the limits of what is possible-or-rejecting this whole framework and instead waging meaningful mass political resistance to the whole fascist direction they are dragging things in.

The crimes committed in our name pile up each and every day.
