Separated by 30 years, a key Watergate era event shares with 9/11/01 a specific intrusion by government in the private lives of citizens, with one major difference: What was illegal in 1971 is now sanctioned by law. Congress should block reauthorization of Section 215 and other provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act that sunset in December. The JUSTICE Act, introduced in the Senate, could fix these problems.
