According to Carl Jung, the archetype of the shadow arises when negative aspects of a person are repressed and denied. The shadow becomes unconscious. It is then projected onto others and is acted out in the world.
The US has a shadow, a very large shadow. It is projected onto our enemies and is acted out through our wars abroad and our actions at home. We must acknowledge and confront this shadow if we are to become whole.
