Our Republic Died in 1950

Harry S. Truman was able to drastically increase defense spending by "scaring the hell out of the people." In 1950 it wasn't a hard task. Following the double whammy of Depression and world war, the Republic was ready for the kill.
Since that disaster cooked the country until today, the only bright spot for liberty has been the Civil Rights movement. Born in the back of a bus, history will remember America for this accomplishment if for nothing else.

"An Unjust Law is no Law at All"

St. Augustine

"I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that "an unjust law is no law at all." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from a Birmingham Jail

T. S. Eliot has said: "The last temptation is the greatest treason: To do the right deed for the wrong reason."

Dump the Military/Industrial Complex

The complex needs perpetual war to assure steady profits. They make many fine weapons hot on world markets. However, they could channel much of this sophistication and expertise into alternative energy projects. The USA lags the rest of the world badly in most energy developments. The markets for these products dwarf those for armaments.
I won't bother you with a laundry list, but this is a no-brainer similar to single payer health insurance.
Firms like Boeing and Aetna are far too entrenched individually and collectively to take them out by conventional means. Quarreling among ourselves making intellectual talking points is a useless endeavor.
We need to get out of our box to think clearly. Let me give you a start. Why have the Taliban beaten us militarily and the Chinese economically?

Everything that Pol Pott and Bull Connor did was legal.

We Don't Pay Policemen to Shoot Suspects

We hire Police to intimidate minority communities. To execute this scenario properly, the bully Policeman must be immune from prosecution. In similar fashion, Republicans insist on claiming Major Hasan is a terrorist. It is not enough for them he is indicted for 13 counts of premeditated murder. Rather than the rule of law, we get racism, bigotry and propaganda.

White people should remember that what goes around comes around.

Slavery, Abduction, Torture and War Anger Me

They involve pitiless thugs and innocent victims. The perpetrators should be hunted down and slaughtered. This is the only proper use of the US military in my opinion.
People who are indifferent to famine, disease and pestilence in others should share that fate.
In a world of injustice, I am comforted that evil-doers suffer in hell.

Born a month before Pearl Harbor, I attended world events from an early age. My first words included Mussolini, Patton, Sahara and Patton. At age three I was a regular listener to Lowell Thomas. My mom was an industrial nurse a member of the (more...)
