Doylestown: The Coalition of Voting Integrity is proud to announce that members of CVI in four counties have joined in the latest lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to halt the use of electronic voting machines that do not create a permanent physical record of each vote. This is a hopeful and significant development for Pennsylvania voters as well as the country.
The lawsuit was announced today at a press conference at the offices of Drinker, Biddle and Reath in Philadelphia. Information about that event is available upon request.
CVI has fought long and hard to help bring about this new endeavor for the purpose of ensuring that every vote cast in Pennsylvania is recorded, counted and reported fully and accurately and can be proven.
This is impossible in all but nine counties in PA, which has been designated as a high-risk state by leading voting security experts since it is one of the few states without an independent means of verifying the vote.
The value of the new suit is that it provides broader statewide representation, which we support enthusiastically. CVI's existing lawsuit was filed in January and does not include many of the shocking facts to recently come to light. We hope that the two suits will be joined and that these legal challenges will open the eyes of Pennsylvania citizens as to the fact that Pennsylvania lacks the proof that their vote has been recorded and counted accurately, an assurance that citizens in thirty-five other states enjoy.
We applaud the efforts of Atty. Marian K. Schneider, Atty. Lowell Finley of Voter Action, the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia as well as the law firm of Drinker, Biddle and Reath. We are all helping to make Pennsylvania a state where voters know that their votes count. This lawsuit is the product of a grassroots effort in the finest tradition of American politics and is a step in the right direction of putting the citizens back into the voting process.
