Likewise the American people made a choice not much different from hers. After being lied to, mislead, and battered militarily and morally they chose to stay with a dishonest and immoral president. And so the abuse of power goes on. There are now over three thousand American service members dead, thousands more wounded and Iraqi's dead by the tens of thousands. Yet, as with my female acquaintance, we somehow find excuses for this.
For those wearing blinders I'm going to send a bit of reality your way. We are not winning the war in Iraq, we never were winning the war in Iraq, and with this president we never will win the war in Iraq.
Didn't anyone find it strange that Saddam's army just melted away during the US invasion? Just because an army chooses not to stand and fight does not mean that army does not exist. They simply faded into the population and revamped their strategies.
The idea that we are somehow making gains in Iraq because they've held elections or wrote a constitution is about as logical as believing a husband or significant other will stop beating on you or your child because of repeatedly broken promises. These are token acts that mean little. Iraq now has a constitution which and elected government without support of large parts of the population. So we have the chaos we're seeing today.
Mr. Bush can not win Iraq for one simple reason. He, like my friends abusive mate, will claim to change but never really do so. In spite of his foul acts he refused to listen to others such as the Iraq Study Group, The House, Senate, or the American people. For that reason he should be removed from office by force of impeachment. If that does not happen we are, as a democracy, all to blame.
