So it was time to focus on perfecting the home brew.
So here's my current recipe, which today, produced the best cup of coffee I've ever had in my life, and I am glad to share it with my dear readers!
Here's what you need:
1. Filtered water. (You don't want fluoride, chlorine and arsenic in your perfect cuppa joe, do you? Even if you don't care whether it affects your health, it does affect the taste.)
2. Your favorite coffee (I use organic, breakfast blend, fair trade. I am quite sure that grinding it right before brewing would make a better cup, but I didn't get up early enough for that. Hmmm, I know that coffee grinder is around here somewhere...)
3. Your favorite nog substitute. Mine is So Delicious Pumpkin Spice (made with coconut milk), but hey, their Chocolate Mint is a very good runner-up. And if these flavors are too exotic for you, they also offer the "plain" variety. (It's heartbreaking that these nogs are only available for the seasonal holidays, and last year I was bitterly disappointed when my local stores ran out before Christmas. So I am planning to freeze some up in ice cube trays, maybe enough to last til Labor Day. I can probably survive from then til October when the next year's batch arrives.)
4. Optional: one drop of cinnamon essential oil (food grade), unsweetened coconut milk (not shown in photo) to mix with the nog if you prefer your coffee concoction drink a little less sweet., and coconut oil if you want the richer, frothy, creamy version. But I warn you, that requires washing the blender. Still, most days, it's totally worth it.
