To most citizens of the United States, the idea of physics, chemistry, and chance (Probability) as the main design component of all life on Earth is as foreign as three-dimensional calculus. About 50 percent of the USA's population believes evolution never occurred, and 34 percent believe it did occur, but was directed by a supernatural deity, and 15 percent believe science is right. This should not come as a surprise, since the USA ranks below average in math and science worldwide. Many scientists believe that the USA is a Frontier country, populated by immigrants with non-scientific backgrounds, and bound together by colonists with tight knit communities linked to a common church, deriving their strength through Holy Scripture. However, the Abrahamic religions are wrong about where humans came from, as scientists can now view evolution at the DNA level. Therefore, many scientists believe that Charles Darwin is the most important person that lived on Earth. Darwin believed that truth came from observation and experimentation, and his book, On the Origin of Species, published in 1859, will live on for the next one thousand years as the seminal benchmark of evolutionary biology. Contrary to popular belief, there is no controversy in science about the origins of life on planet Earth. This belief only exists in the media propelled by politicians and religious extremists. The USA needs to be firmly grounded in science and math, with all forms of religious extremism modulated, so, collectively, as a nation, the country can move ahead and keep up with the rest of the world in scientific endeavors. Yes, Dorothy, there is gene splicing in the cornfields of Kansas - the genetic manipulation of corn, based on evolutionary science, inserting an insecticide into the genes of the corn plant to reduce the destruction of the corn crop from insects.
The future is upon us, and the 21st Century will be heralded in by major discoveries in genetic research and biology. The day will come when humans can select their children with certain genetic traits, such as hair and eye color, height and strength, thin or fat. Biology will be integrated with mechanics, as human body parts fail, cybernetic parts will replace human body parts and prolong life and reduce severe pain from injured joints.
