The number of prostitutes is increasing despite the reduction in real incomes of sex workers. This indicates that women become prostitutes due to the lack of other earning opportunities. However, prostitution no longer lives up to expectations! In the current situation, an effective method of combating prostitution is the transfer of prostitutes to other sectors of the economy. To do this, it is necessary to decriminalize prostitution and create new jobs. But one should not naively believe that prostitution will completely disappear. Part of the market will remain. But these will be highly paid professionals which need legalization, not decriminalization! Only a combination of these two measures can completely regulate the work of prostitutes in New York.
*The average income is obtained by dividing the industry's turnover of $5 billion by the total number of prostitutes in New York in the amount of 69 thousand people
