Does that mean that white washing the tornados that devastated Moore, Oklahoma is a deliberate attempt by the media to generate more sympathy? I doubt it. But even if the coverage generates more support for the victims of the tragedy I am left wondering if the help is given out equitably or do the images we see impact the way we treat people who come seeking help?
At the very least, the white washing of a disasters, be it
911 or the tornados in Moore, Oklahoma, masks the complexion of the victims and
renders invisible her "darker" victims whose lives and loss are every bit as
important and every bit as profound.
