Even before that in the 1930's President Franklin Roosevelt , certainly no liberal he, sided with the unionists who were protesting for a 40 hour work week, paid overtime, social security for the aged and welfare for those who couldn't find work during the 30's depression.
Roosevelt also put people back to work during those "New Deal " days building dams, bridges, roads, and schools. That seems unimaginable today.
Again getting back to these college student protests even the college administrators are suspending students found in these demonstrations.
To this observer we're trending toward a sort of fascism in the US if Constitutionally protected rights of assembly are brutally suppressed by police.
From here this US "from sea to shining sea" is becoming more
unrecognizable by the day.
