United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced Recovery Act funding to assist 129 rural libraries in 30 states to create, expand, and improve our nation's rural libraries. Source

The National Credit Union Administration voted to place into conservatorship three corporate credit unions: Members United Corporate Federal Credit Union of Warrenville, Illinois; Southwest Corporate Federal Credit Union of Plano, Texas; and Constitution Corporate Federal Credit Union of Wallingford, Connecticut. Source

The White House released visitor records that were created in June 2010. The release brought the grand total of records that the White House had released to over 700,000 records. The Records can be viewed here.

The United States Justice Department invoked the state secret privilege in seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by civil liberties groups on behalf of the father of Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, which sought to prevent the U.S. government from trying to target him for assassination. The Justice Department alledged Anwar al-Awlaki was a leader of a branch of al-Qaeda in Yemen. Source

Day611/Sep27th/Monday: The President was interviewed live on NBC's Today Show.

The President announced a new goal of recruiting 10,000 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) teachers over the next two years to move the United States forward on his Administration's ambitious goal of preparing 100,000 STEM teachers over the next decade. "When I came into office, I set a goal of moving our nation from the middle to the top of the pack in math and science education. Strengthening STEM education is vital to preparing our students to compete in the 21st century economy, and we need to recruit and train math and science teachers to support our nation's students," the President said in a statement.

The President hosted an on-the-record conference call with college and university student-journalists to discuss the steps his Administration had taken to address the concerns and issues important to young Americans. Transcript Video
