Assistant to the President for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security John Brennan visited Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, to consult with U.S. and Yemeni officials about the bilateral relationship. With President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Brennan discussed the United States' economic and humanitarian support for the Yemeni people, which had increased to over $110 million dollars. Saleh and Brennan consulted on the Friends of Yemen, including its upcoming September 24th Ministerial meeting in New York. Source
The Justice Department urged the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to reverse a previous U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia three-judge panel's ruling of August 2010 that reversed the conviction and life sentence of a cocaine dealer whose vehicle was tracked, for a month with a GPS device without a court warrant. "The panel's conclusion that Jones had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the public movements of his Jeep rested on the premise that an individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy in the totality of his or her movements in public places, " Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Smith wrote the court in a petition for rehearing, adding three other circuit courts had ruled law enforcement officials do not require a warrant for GPS vehicle tracking.
