"Barbara Lee: Speaking Truth to Power" is a riveting yet intimate award-winning documentary produced and directed by Abby Ginzberg. This 90-minute portrait of Congresswoman Lee can be viewed for free though March 16, 2022.
The film received the NAACP's 2022 Image Award for Best Documentary Film.
Barbara Lee (D-CA) is the highest ranking Black woman in Congress, currently serving her 12th term. As a divorced mother of two on food stamps and a survivor of abuse, she went on to get her college degree and enter politics. She has been a member of the House since 1998. In 2001 she cast the courageous, lone vote against the measure that authorized the war on Iraq, saying, "Let us not become the evil we deplore."
Congresswoman Lee is a steadfast voice for peace, and for economic and racial justice. She is the sponsor of legislation to create a cabinet-level Department of Peacebuilding (H.R. 1111)
The documentary also features Van Jones, John Lewis, Alice Walker, Danny Glover, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Cory Booker.
