They still have the mindset that America would never do anything underhanded. They still believe that the only people that should worry about the rights we no longer have, are terrorists. They still believe that there are terrorists behind every tree and still support this "War on Terror". It's not just my three brothers. I live in South Carolina and in this state; you don't go popping off about America. Since I have put my "Impeach Bush" bumper sticker on my Jeep, I've been run off the road twice and given the finger four times. Because we read about what is happening and it's old hat to us, the people that don't pay too much attention to politics still don't believe half of what we say about this administration, or the seriousness of the situation they have put us in.
The President will give his "State of the Union" tonight. I can tell you what he will say. "The economy is strong", "Unemployment is low", "The Dow is up", and "the nation is secure". He will focus on how he and the Democratic Congress are going to "Work together to solve our nation's problems". He will then say; "We also want to make it clear to other Nations that this country will do what it takes to secure its borders and protect its citizens. We also want to make it clear to Iran that we will not tolerate them building nuclear weapons, or interfering with our campaign to bring Democracy to the brave people of Iraq". He will admit to a few mistakes and that his new team will not let the young Iraqi democratic government down. That he and Prime Minister Maliki will continue to work together to bring democracy to the people of Iraq. He will make a proposal for health care coverage, which will bring him good will, but the proposal will also be so preposterous that it will never be passed.
You can even skip the speech. If you read that, watching the speech will just is a repeat of what you read. The reason I'm writing this today is not to tell you what Bush will say tonight. The reason I'm writing this is to tell you that the majority of people will believe that he is correct in his assessment of our nation. That the economy is good, and that he brings us security, and that Iran is an evil Islamic Nation just like all the other evil Islamic Nations that hate us "for our freedom".
Now is not the time to believe we have de-fanged this predator, we haven't. He's not just a bumbling idiot that is trying to show up his dad. He is a calculating man who has Machievellian type people behind him, striving for an American Empire. If we stop now, or let our guard down, we will be at war with Iran. What is so pitiful, is that the Democrats don't believe that war with Iran is his true intention! They also believe that he will listen to Congress. I'm here to tell you he won't. He will maneuver us into a war, left to his own devices. People (even Progressives) don't understand corporations and not the people of this country fund our political races in America; politicians are beholden to them and not the American people. Corporations decide who will get funded, and who won't. They decide what candidates will best suit business needs and not social needs. If a politician happens to be able to do both, fine. In the end though, its corporate needs over social.
Let me end this by proposing that we all find ways of bringing the majority of our countrymen in line with the truth. That we strive to explain and educate people that events have passed by somehow. Let us try to bring these people to see that what they are letting go because of their apathy, is what Americans have been fighting and dying for since before we were an independent nation. We have Americans wondering why things are the way they are. Tomorrow, when people at work or wherever talk about the State of The Union speech, try to enlighten them, even if you know you'll get rebuffed or ignored. We need to make everyone understand what it is that they might be throwing away because of ignorance. We all need to work at this. Our freedom depends on it.
