SHARE Friday, November 15, 2024 Something Stinks. Will Someone Clear the Air?
With the help of some concerned South Florida residents, I set out to learn about Dexa Financials LLC., an Aventura, Fl., business that public records note donated $50,000 to a PAC supporting the reelection of the Hollywood, Fl, mayor. We're still digging, and we still don't know much about Dexa. This stinks. $50,000 isn't chump change. So it ought to be clear who or what made a big investment in a candidate.

AirBnbs, also known as short-term vacation rentals, are mushrooming in Hollywood, Fl. The relatively new business model makes money for investors, and drives up property values. But it also depletes housing stock, decreases the number of families with school-age children and turns residential neighborhoods into a sometimes out-of-control "motel row".

A South Florida property sits empty and in decay. But decades ago the Hollywood Beach Hotel was an architectural gem that shined a light on the city of Hollywood, which celebrates its 100th birthday next year. It also welcomed Jewish patrons even though anti-Semitism was a powerful force here in the 30s, 40s and 50s. But its fate is uncertain because most of it is owned by the company of a New York City real estate mogul.

Unfortunately, though, the learning process was corrupted by powerful forces that censored speech or, in the case of OpEdNews, imposed a soft form of censorship. Do you hear that, Google?

Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy won in 2016 with more than 50 percent of the vote. Four years later he got a second term unopposed. This year, though, many former Levy supporters are leaving him behind, much as he left behind his 2016 political persona. This year residents are ready for a full-time mayor to represent the entire city. And that person is Catherine "Cat" Uden.
