The dictionary definition of a maverick is: a) An unbranded range animal; esp. : a motherless calf; b) an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party. (synonyms: someone out of the mainstream ... nonconformist, loner outsider, marginal.) However, George Bush has been a maverick president what with his launching an unwarranted war and many other impetuous and unwise appointments and decisions. *
2. 22 times McCain has said "Still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong." ... Out of touch, or maybe by "our" he meant his and Cindy's economy. That would be the only spin that could make his observation accurate. AGE? Poor quality of judgment. *

4. McCain's answer to the country's economic woes is "We need a long-range commission to fix the economy ... like we had for 9/11". This is tantamount to passing the buck and failing in presenting a leadership set of plans (something Obama has done in detail).
5. McCain wants more tax cuts for the wealthy, and wants to make "maverick" George W. Bush's tax breaks for the 2% wealthiest people of our country PERMANENT. Can you say, "poor judgment"?
6. Obama has said, "John McCain's solution to the financial problems we have is 'a commission' -- a commission. That's Washington speak for 'We'll get back to you later'", says Obama.
7. Phil Gramm, McCain's close friend and adviser said, "The thing wrong isn't the economy; the American people are whiners". Gramm has been touted as McCain's likely Secretary of the Treasury.

McCain is and has a long history of being impetuous, impulsive, with a flash-point temper: is this someone we want as President with his finger on the RED button? * Trudy Rubin in an op-ed piece in the Telegraph Herald September 18, 2008 makes the following observation: "She [Sarah Palin] opined that, if Georgia joined NATO and Moscow attacked again, maybe America would have to fight the Russians. In other words, the world's two biggest nuclear powers would engage in battle, after avoiding such a catastrophe for the whole Cold War." ..."After what she [Palin] said on Russia, I want to know when the Republican ticket believes it is appropriate for America to use force." ... "With no foreign-policy experience, the Alaska governor was heavily briefed by McCain staff before her first TV interview [where she stated the opinion above]." ... "This is not the moment in history for a democracy crusade. The Bush administration tried that; the next president will have to deal with the consequences." And if that next president is McCain who subscribes to the "hawkish idealism that wants force to be used to promote American principles, including democracy, and bring about regime change," the future is likely one of war, war, war ... or worse.

12. McCain's age, cancer and Vice Presidential choice are all extremely unsettling. Should, God forbid, anything happen to "President McCain" ... we would have ultraconservative "President Palin". The country has suffered enough.
