The Family Research Council is asking members to pray away the occupy movement. Here's an excerpt from the suggested prayer.
"May the movement simply fizzle. May God protect those who live nearby and must encounter these raucus groups. May God harvest souls for Christ from among them just as He did discontented youth in the Jesus Movement of the 60's and 70's"
Wow, what a bunch of loonies. The Occupy Protest is a mirror image of the teaching of their Master, in which Jesus clearly admonished the faithful to help care for the poor and to reject the trappings of gold and wealth. He makes it clear you cannot worship God and Money at the same time. Jesus also claims (literally) that a rich man 'has about as much of a chance getting into heaven as a camel through the eye of needle'. The message here is clear and obvious yet the Family Research Council would just as soon have the unemployed and struggling 'fizzle away' so the banksters and Money/Mammon can rule supreme.
What really cracks me up is the fact that their supposed Master was the Original Occupier and certainly a Man of the 99% who supports poor people over business interests every time. Don't right wing Christians remember the events that led to their Masters crucifixion (or would they just rather wallow and revel in the blood and violence of his death?).
Jesus as the Original Occupier went to the Temple and whipped the Merchants (ala Wall Street and Banks) and the Merchants (ala Wal-Mart), and those that corrupt religious space by trying to make money off the Sacred (those that sell Nature/Creation - re. Doves- for profit). He got pissed - the only time he abandoned love - and went nuts. He made it clear in no uncertain terms that business and church do not mix, and that if you corrupt this system his wrath will be unleashed. What part of this message don't right wing Christians understand? All of it obviously since they are happy injecting their judgment into the affairs of those in society that are suffering. It's also wiggedy wacked that the message of the 60-'s counter culture was Peace and Love and somehow the Family Research Council equates this message with demonstrating the need to be saved. O-M-G.
The Occupy Movement in some ways surpasses Jesus's example by remaining non-violent when in reality a little table upturning and whipping of the Money Changers and Merchants would be much more to Jesus's liking and closely follow his example.
