Racist SB 202, passed in Georgia in 2021 in the immediate wake of the Ossoff/Warnock [Democratic] Senate victories, has paralyzed voters of color in that state. Among many measures, it has radically reduced the duration of the early voting period and the number and availability of drop boxes in the four greater Atlanta counties—and hence the number of absentee ballots, down by a million since the previous elections in 2020/2021.
SB202 is the reason that the run-off for Reverend Warnock’s Senate seat is necessary. Most absentee voters are African Americans living in greater Atlanta. And they mostly vote for Democrats.
Greg Palast and his supporters have filed a complaint with the DoJ’s civil rights division to increase the number of ballot boxes in this urban expanse. USPS can’t serve absentee voters well when the early voting period has been so reduced.
