As one of the worst-performing schools in the state of California, it is surprising that the LAUSD Board's vote to reject this school's renewal application was not unanimous. Melvoin looked past Crete's students being 102.6 points below standard in English Language Arts and 110.8 points below standard in Mathematics to be the lone vote in support of keeping this school open. Is it the money that charter school supporters dump into his political campaigns, or does he just not care about a school where 62.5% of the students are black or African American and 34.4% are Hispanic or Latino?
