(7) Lust: the habit of inordinately desiring the bodily good that pertains to the preservation of the species.
First, we should note that pride, envy, anger, and sloth as Aquinas defines them are related to our irascible appetites as Aquinas understands our irascible appetites. But our irascible appetites represent the two Warrior archetypes in our psyches (that is, both the masculine Warrior archetype and the feminine Warrior archetype). So if we were to work as hard as we can to avoid these four deadly sins as Aquinas has defined them, then we would thereby be operationalizing Moore's thought about preferably avoiding the "shadow" forms of the two Warrior archetypes in our psyches inasmuch as we can avoid them through deliberate self-conscious choice and action.
Next, we should note that covetousness (avarice or greed), gluttony, and lust as Aquinas defines them are related to the concupiscible appetites as Aquinas understands our concupiscible appetites. But our concupiscible appetites represent the two Lover archetypes in our psyches (that is, both the masculine Lover archetype and the feminine Lover archetype). So if we were to work as hard as we can to avoid these three deadly sins as Aquinas defines them, then we would thereby be operationalizing Moore's thought about preferably avoiding the "shadow" forms of the two Lover archetypes in our psyches inasmuch as we can avoid them through deliberate self-conscious choice and action.
Nevertheless, despite our best moral efforts, we will remain wounded Warriors and wounded Lovers, wounded by our archetypal wounding, until our archetypal wounding is healed through archetypal healing.
However, our moral striving can also be enhanced by cultivating the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude (or courage), and temperance (or moderation). In Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy, the four cardinal virtues are aligned with the four-part account of the human psyche as follows:
(1) intellect/ prudence
(2) will/justice
(3) concupiscible appetites/temperance (or moderation)
