Impeachment Still Off The Table. Why Are We Surprised?

After the recent passage in Vermont of local laws requiring the arrest of Cheney and Bush, should they ever visit, and a similar call for municipal action in Kennebunkport, Maine, few Americans can be oblivious to the long list of crimes these men have committed.

Cheney and Bush brazenly crow about their power, and are well-known for their consistent practice of rewarding cronies with lucrative contracts, and punishing those whom they regard as disloyal with everything from "outing" their Federally-employed spouses' clandestine government service to -- well, that is the creepy part. How far would they go?

Come to that, how far have they gone?

It has been reported credibly that during the actual "nine-eleven," Cheney himself was actually conducting a military exersize, planes in the air, boots on the ground, concerned with the military's response to the possible scenario of terrorists flying airliners into tall downtown buildings such as the WTC or the Sears Building.

If this is even partly true, why is it a surprise that Congress refuses to utter a sqeak about Impeachment? It would be like ratting on the local Mob boss. Worse, by a factor of about a gazillion. These men, if actually confronted by the implacable arm of the Law for the first time in their long criminal careers, would surely respond with Biblical violence. And every public servant knows it deep in their bones. You wouldn't just lose your job.

So don't look for "accountability" in the next little while. If McCain is not inserted into the White House by Executive fiat under Martial Law, don't expect President Clinton or President Obama to stand up there on Day One, or answer the phone at three a.m. for that matter, and say, "We're giving back all the powers usurped by the previous administration because they are anti-democratic, un-Constitutional and in fact, criminally actionable in the courts as violations of the Oath of Office we have just sworn ourselves."

Sorry. Ain't gonna happen. Also not happening: Said President-elect pronouncing words to the effect that Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld (oh goodness gracious me, remember him?), Wolfowitz, Feith, and the rest of that sick crew will be arrested and tried for High Treason.

It should happen. It would be Justice. But it won't. Here is why: people who do such outrageous, murderous, heinous crimes against humanity don't sit around with their hands out waiting for the handcuffs. They bite. Remember all those millions of dead people around the world that they had bombed, tortured, imprisoned without charge forever, "disappeared," "rendered," etc., etc.? They are still at it. Why would they stop at a few Congresspersons?

The list of dead Congresspersons, in fact, who died accidentally just as they were about to defeat Repubican candidates in elections, is quite impressive. The investigations into their plane crashes or car accidents or sudden heart attacks or whatever have been reported to be rather unusual in their speed and secrecy, and in their peculiar outside-protocol conduct.

The list of unanswered questions about the collapse of the WTC is also quite impressive, with real, significant questions that are really significantly unanswered, all of which have chilling implications about whose hand was actually behind that disaster.

Well, here's the big secret. The United States of America suffered a coup several years ago. Its watchful guardians were subdued, its system of Checks and Balances was crippled, its Federal Agencies were all put in the hands of members of the plot, and it worked. Good bye, USA.

It ain't over. They are still in charge. Who is going to arrest them? The Brattleboro Police?

I'm an old Pogo fan. For some unknown reason I persist in outrage at Feudalism, as if human beings can do much better than this. Our old ways of life are obsolete and are killing us. Will the human race wake up in time? Stay (more...)
