I hope one day we are civilized
And the violence and greed
Will be trivialized
When our hopes
And our dreams
Can be realized.
I hope that one day
In this place,
That we handle
Ourselves with more grace;
I hope that one day
Justice rules--
And that war becomes
Only for fools.
I hope that all races
Become one and
The notion of nations succumbs;
When we finally
Learn how to share
The earth's wealth
And end all despair;
And that kindness
And love aren't rare.
Until then I'll just sit
Here and wait,
While the liars
Have their debate.
