The Green Party supports cutting the military budget by at least half, both to create a peace dividend and to convert American foreign policy to one based on mutual security / well-being. This peace dividend would free up the funds needed to rebuild our country - housing, schools, mass transit, environmental protection, jobs - and to fund the Green New Deal conversion to a clean, renewable energy.
In contrast, President Obama last year proposed the largest military budget ever. He has proposed a slight reduction in military spending this year but less than what would take place under sequestration. Obama still views the environment and job creation as being at cross-purposes rather than seeing a sustainable Green New Deal as the logical path to full employment.
