Briefly, Moore works with four archetypes of masculine maturity:

 

(1) the King archetype

 

(2) the Warrior archetype

 

(3) the Magician archetype

 

(4) the Lover archetype

 

(He claims that girls and women have a parallel set of four feminine archetypes in the archetypal levels of their psyches.)

 

In a series of carefully constructed diagrams in the revised and expanded edition of THE KING WITHIN (2007), Moore and Gillette illustrate diagrammatically and then explain in accompanying character sketches how the gradual advances in accessing the positive energies of these four archetypal sources of energy proceed.

 

In principle, I have no objection to the Jungian theory of self-development that Moore and Gillette have presented.
