I was raised an Armybrat, which gave me an appreciation for our military, diversity and travel. In my young adulthood I was a Republican, this in the days Republicans were still actually conservative. When the move began in earnest to push religion into our schools and Constitution, I left the Republican Party or, more to the point, my party left me. I later became a Democrat and have worked on various campaigns and efforts since.
I am retired from the legal field and spend my time doing volunteer work with groups such as Pilot International. I also help to moderate a liberal IRC political channel on Undernet which promotes civil and informed debate on the various issues.
I dabble at being an artist, preferring watercolors and Native American leather crafts. I enjoy growing gourds to make some of my drums and also use gourds for other projects such as birdhouses which are donated to various community groups to help with fundraising.
I am known to be a political news junkie and like to see and to encourage informative debate on the issues. I would like to think I work towards positive change but, apparently, any positive change is hard to measure in today's world.
I volunteer with OPN because I believe in responsible free speech and because it's refreshing to see support and encouragement for new writers.
My bio, like me, is a work in progress.

"Trump is everything many people hate about the United States, so it's no surprise some are infuriated by his rise.
But it's not just ethos — it's also what he proposes to do to many countries, particularly American allies. Trump's actual foreign policy vision represents a fundamental break with decades of American foreign policy. Given that a lot of American allies depend on those very decades-old policies for their own security, Trump's rise is more than just cartoonish. For them, it's legitimately terrifying."

unmoored from tradition — an irony that Burke might appreciate."
Thursday, November 12, 2015 Reality takes a beating in latest Republican debateSHARE
There's always chatter about who "wins" or "loses" at debates, but there was one clear loser last night: reality."I can appreciate why “Presidential Candidates Lie To Win Votes” is
a dog-bites-man headline, but last night wasn’t so much about
dishonesty as it was about feeling stuck in a “Twilight Zone” episode.
Jon Chait concluded,
“In a debate where chastened moderators avoided interruptions or
follow-ups, the candidates were free to inhabit any alternate reality of
their choosing, unperturbed by inconvenient facts.”

"But the climate that produces such talk is real: The notion, fair or
not, that Clinton is increasingly vulnerable has Democrats increasingly
worried. Biden would want his candidacy to be seen on its own
merits. Given the current state of play — Clinton’s declining trust
numbers, the investigation into her private e-mail account and
expressions of concern among Democrats about her vulnerabilities, along
with Sanders’s rise in the polls — that would be impossible."
