During the Iraq war Barbara Bush said, "But why should we hear about body bags and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or that or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that, and watch him suffer."
Barbara Bush's level of compassion and empathy can also be seen in her statement regarding the Katrina homeless, "Almost everyone I've talked to says, 'We're gonna move to Houston.' What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas... Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality, and so many of the people in the arenas here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."
This emotional detachment and lack of empathy in the Bush family would obviously have a deep affect on young George.
But as in the case with so many of history's sicko leaders, like Hitler, Stalin, etc., the question is not that a person and family sometimes are quite twisted. But the question is how these 'sickos' are able to capture the public's imagination and rise to great power in their countries.
So Poppy Bush raised one of history's "sick puppies" but he likely doesn't care to know that because he and his family have a history of twisted activities. Most likely know of Poppy's father's bankrolling of the Nazi regime at the time America was at war with Germany.
Perhaps to such a sick family as the Bush's, the truth that comes from Olbermann and Maddow may seem twisted. I guess that can explain how Poppy Bush can go on to call such truth sayers "sick puppies."
But for me, the real issue is not how GW became so sick and that family's significant dysfunction. The real issue will always be how a country can be so sick so as to let such a sicko, like Shrub, lead them. The American malady, that has parallels in Nazi Germany, needs to be examined and answers need to be found so that a nation of "sick puppies" can find the roots of their sickness and determine a treatment.
Until America comes to terms with its own disordered condition, the American people will continue to be used as pawns by other sickos. That sickness, unfortunately, doesn't just stay within the shores of this country but has been transplanted throughout the world in the form of dehumanizing globalization and wars for Empire.
