And what is the difference between innocent bystanders
Being killed or injured by an IED, triggered by a remote control
And innocent bystanders being killed by a bomb dropped from a plane?
Some would answer
That it is the killing of helpless hostages
Or the blowing up of innocents
With one's own hand or body
That is crueler
But others would answer
That it is the killing of innocent bystanders
From a distance
While the killer remains aloof
And safe
The US military will exalt
At killing the enemy any way it can
And will apologize for the loss of innocent life
But it will continue to blow up innocent bystanders
Or shoot the helpless who stray into it's "free fire zones"
The insurgency will exalt
At the deaths of it's martyrs
Who kill with their own hands and bodies
And it will continue to execute and blow up the innocent and helpless
The innocent and helpless will weep
At the suffering and dying
Of themselves and the ones they love
And, in the end
Whether they are killed up-close or at a distance
Whether they are killed by a hand on a knife
Or a hand on the trigger of a bomb, or a missile, or a gun
Whether they are killed by a soldier, an insurgent, or a terrorist
