We decorated a tree with imitation fruit it seemed
Tried to capture summer glory in the dead of winter
Celebrated an inner warmth when it seemed all Nature was dead,
.
And on the four of July we went to the farm to see relatives
In the height of summer celebrated Nature and kin
And then wearily went back home to the dread solitude of city
Remembered Nature/farm/picnics/happy-relatives,
.
And made of it a seed small and asleep
And kept that seed in my heart barely alive
Kept it in winter coldness and dormancy
And felt those things as hope in dreams,
.
